Festival Iminente
22–25.09.2022 | Day 2

At Choque, another treat is cooking to keep us clammed and sticking around the sandy wasteland despite the growing wind.

The duo Shaka Lion B2B & DJ Glue sets behind the turntables and their sheer joy, their B-Boy delight in experiment, and complementary style, totally bring the crowd to climax. The first is triple K Portuguese; born in Brazil, razed in Barreiro, and now Lisbo-knight for a while. DJ Glue is instead a Brooklyn dissident, who with some American sheering glow, plays the social lubricant of the duo with a stunningly infectious smile. They are pure groove and 120% Fun.

What I like most about Iminente, and I said it here and there, is its respect for diversity and inclusion. And that is geographic, linguistic, cultural and generational. In fact, some of the festival’s ACE shows were delivered by 60+, check day 24.09 to see how wild it can get.

IAM, the veteran Rap band made in Marseille was purely and simply: majestic. Their show was generous, playful and epic. It was incredibly choreographed but never felt empathic or pompous. In their genuine pleasure to perform together, it rather felt a parody of a drinking night by the Chevaliers de la Table Ronde. What a perfect symbiosis between the five! If each has since fullfilled a solo carrier, when coming together as such, they felt the anti-RollingStones, not playing to pay taxes and joining an indie festival with the great support of the Institut Francais de Lisbonne. Still. Demain C’est Loin [Tomorrow, it’s far] will for sure become my motto to sustain the dry Winter of inflation. IAM both theatrical and ‘potache’, spoken word artists and boys ‘on the bench’ who could still surprise each other and burst in laughs. It was the peak night of the four days, that Friday night. It expressed Iminente’s boldness and anti-hipster style in everything. Always caring for its crowds, entertaining and training its community, and after a decade in Brrrr..exit_Britain, to be surrounded by French dudes who knew the songs by heart, made me laugh, and laugh, and laugh. Je danse le MIA, et toi?
