#festivaliminente is an independent festival born in #Lisbon in 2016, with a 360-degree-vision on urban cultures by #Portuguese artist and now ‘conductor of experiences’,#Alexandre Farto aka #Vhils.
#Vhils was 10 years old in 1997 when he began his urban interventions as a street artist. He then turned founder and curator of the gallery #Underdogs, which serves as his cockpit at the heart of #Matinha.
A post-industrial wasteland in the outskirts of Lisbon, #Matinha with its flagship metallic structures stands still in a no man’s land. In the 50s, it was the Matinha Gas Factory feeding energy to the city. A sandy site dominating Lisbon, facing the port and the Tagus river with stunningly pink sunsets, it is turned circus, nomadic camp and fictions, the 22–25 of september.
At its feet, #Underdogs, the gallery is a point of convergence; a testing board where renowned and emerging artists from diverse backgrounds, converge. #Vhils describes it as "a safe space for the true and free spirit of urban culture in all of its forms, encouraging casual interaction and proximity between artists, art and audience."
That could also be the tag line for #festivaliminente. Since 2016, the festival is exploring other shores from Rio de Janeiro to Shanghai with the same fearless irreverence to borders #Vhils is famous for. It is "where the best expressions of urban culture on a global scale come together in an explosion of creativity and entertainment.”
At its core, what #festivaliminente does uniquely is to lineup national and international urban cultures with a sophisticated sense and care for multiple audiences. The website itself with its explosive design, expresses what #Iminente stands for: visual mastery, sonic edge and inclusion.
All cultures of Portugal play out here. Farto give his country’s unique in makeup a 360 degrees spin as Portugal is blessed by a profusion of talents descending from mythical bastions of music –Brazil, Cape Verde, Angola, Mozambique, and many more.
Now the night zaps daylight into a natural lamp-lighter’s constellation.
#Iminente at #Matinha is a springboard and a feast of urban cultures. A trigger for anyone’s imagination. A circus for creativity to foment each year, joyful togetherness_
