Stills Not So Still at Madre’s Atelier

Madre de Deus is a Portuguese ceramist working from her atelier in Bairro Alto, Lisbon. She holds dual degrees in Fine Arts & Fashion and Design & Creation. At the potter’s wheel, she shapes pieces where sketch lines transform into poetic objects. This late afternoon at the Mercado de Ofícios de Bairro Alto, Madre and I experimented with still photography, using props from Rui at
Latoaria Maciel—a seventh-generation tin maker who still crafts candelabras, lanterns, and chandeliers by hand. The mercado is open to the public and located on Tv. da Boa Hora, in Bairro Alto, Lisbon.
