Vila Franca de Xira in Ribatejo, Portugal, cultivates its tradition of bullfighting which breathes across town and at the mercado through posters, and on walls honoring its local heroes such as at the café Jockey adjacent to the market. The town's identity is weaved in this heritage. At Taberna Sevilla, the crowd in seated eyes peeled, facing the screen. The whole town in awe of Portuguese debutant and prodigy Tomás Bastos who went to fight in Madrid's San Isidro Fair 2025, held at Las Ventas bullring. “Courage and grace is a formidable mixture. The only place to see it is the bullring,” said actress Marlene Dietrich. At the back of Sevilla —sipping Sagres with short breath, hard to resist the high of both.
